Candidate Barack Obama: "Under my plan of a cap and trade system, electricity rates would necessarily sky rocket."
President Teddy Roosevelt on immigration :
In the first place, we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the person's becoming in every facet an American, and nothing but an American...There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn't an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag... We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language.. and we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people.

Dan Cronin comments on life in England
I think family values are disappearing. There does not seem to be any respect for anything anymore. The drug problem is out of control. The politicians seem to talk the language of the concerned voter when its election time.
Political correctness is out of control. Religious tolerance seems to be for only one religion [Islam]. They also want to impose sharia law in this country. The elderly are abused by youngsters. Knife crime is rife.
But apart from that, what a wonderful day, the sun is shining, the birds are chirping. Cheers Danny
Palmetto Family Team to Fight Spartanburg Suit
Spartanburg County School District 7 (western Spartanburg County) has been sued by a group called the "Freedom from Religion Foundation" for allowing high school credit for release time Bible instruction at Spartan High. "Release Time" is the term coined in the Supreme Court's 1954 Zorach decision that allows students to attend Bible teaching off campus during school hours. Bible education at Spartanburg High is through SCBEST (South Carolina Bible Education in School Time).
The authority for school boards to provide actual high school elective credit for release time instruction was made possible by the Release Time Credit Act (2006), pushed by Palmetto Family Alliance. Senator George "Chip" Campsen ( (R-Charleston) was the legislative sponsor of the bill. Alliance Defense Fund (ADF) provided legal consulting services on constitutionality.
"Palmetto Family Council has been in touch with its legal and legislative team today and will bring its full expertise to bear in this case," said PFC President Dr. Oran Smith. "We were proud to work for the passage of the Release Time Credit Act in 2006 and welcome the opportunity to prove its constitutionality."

Governor Sanford Issues Statement on Ports Veto Override
Columbia, S.C. -- Gov. Mark Sanford issued the following statement June 16 on the ports bill veto that was overridden today in the General Assembly:
"A lot of lip service is paid by many in the legislature to the idea of restructuring, and what we saw today is despite their talk about accountability our state is saddled with a legislative body that is content to further set our state back as has been done with this bill," Gov. Sanford said. "The ideas of more in the way of qualifications and long-term planning contained in this bill were nothing more than a smokescreen for taking away governors' ability to hire and fire board members. Taking that authority away will make our State Ports Authority less accountable and less transparent, and will make our state less competitive as a result. That said, I would give real credit to Senators like Chip Campsen, Tom Davis and Mike Rose who stood tall for the idea of accountability, and I thank them for their work in trying to sustain this veto."

Gov. Mark Sanford names state legislators who stand with him in limiting government overspending as he vetoes much of the South Carolina budget. It's time to vote out of office legislators who can't quit spending money we do not have.
Here are Gov. Sanford's comments: With our vetoes of the state budget now public, I write today to ask you make one more call, write one more email, and encourage one more friend or family member to urge their legislators to take a stand tomorrow for responsible budgeting.
We've chosen to reject much of this year's legislative budget for the way it spends $350 million in stimulus funds without addressing an equal amount of state debt, and for the way it passes up a prime opportunity to make long overdue reforms to state government. Given we've now said our peace, it’s up to you to persuade your respective representatives in Columbia to support our vetoes tomorrow.
Several legislators have stood with us on the side of responsible budgeting. In the House, they include Representatives Ballentine, Bedingfield, Crawford, Duncan, Haley, Hamilton, Huggins, Lowe, Merrill, Millwood, Nanney, Ted Pitts, Rice, Scott, Simrill, Murrell Smith, Garry Smith, Stewart, Stringer, Thompson, Toole, Viers, and Young. In the Senate, Bright, Bryant, Campsen, Cleary, Davis, Grooms, Massey, Mulvaney, Rose, Ryberg, Shoopman and Verdin voted to avoid the mistakes of the past and go back to the drawing board with respect to the state budget.
